Georgioupolis is a well-known village and tourist resort in Chania (in the region of Apokoronas), on the Greek island of Crete. It is located about 45 km east of Chania city center and about 20 km west of Rethymno – and if you continue, about 100 km west of Heraklion.
Georgioupolis used to be a small fishing village, but now, because of the vast tourists that visit it every year, has become a destination which offers a large number of hotels, cafés, tavernas and rental offices.
In the town square, you will find that it is surrounded by outdoor seating and you will notice tourists and locals enjoying their coffee, drink or meal, depending on the business.
The beach of Georgioupolis is also an attraction, as many coffee shops and restaurants reside by the beachfront.
Something you must see is the church of Agios Nikolaos which has been built on a rocky area, within the sea, and is reachable only by walking on the rock pathway (a few meters away).
